Seeking the Sandhill Crane

It’s the end of March and I recently learned that the Sandhill Cranes are working their way out of Indiana on their annual trek north for the summer. A couple of weeks ago, I saw them soaring overhead after a failed search near Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge.

This morning, however, I found the cranes at the Jasper-Pulaski State Fish and Wildlife Area in northern Indiana. Sandhill cranes weren’t the only birds seen… I also witnessed a red-tailed hawk in flight and some wood ducks paddling in the marsh.
